Malaysia - First place of visit on Dec 23rd

The first place of visit in Malaysia was KLCC Towers otherwise called as Petronas towers or twin towers in Malaysia. Whoa! what a huge building it was. It is a landmark of Malaysia and was built ten years ago. Currently they are celebrating 10 years with Petronas. It has lot of offices located in there and huge malls at the basement. Lot of brand outlets are present and you can shop from there. I forgot to tell you that the currency in Malayisa is Ringgits and works out to be Rs.8 per Ringgit. At the 42nd floor, a bridge connects the two buildings and visitors are allowed from 9 am to 5 pm to see the view of neighbourhood areas from this floor.

Now wait! I have been there twice and never got a chance to get to the 42nd floor and you know why? It is merely for the huge crowd that visit this tower daily. The allowed limit of patrons are only 1800 pax and several thousands want to visit the tower. The queue starts at 7 am in the morning and the tickets are over in an hour or two. It is a free entry to the building though. We also visited the towers at night and wow! it was glowing in glory. Such a beautiful site and I did not want to move my eye from it. Such a wonderful tourist attraction but the sad thing is it is contributing to the ozone layer problem due to excessive emission of light and usage of electricity. I clicked a lot of snaps of the building and the night effect showed smoke just above the building. It is therefore contributing to global warming but for it the building is a made marvel for sure.

Diwali in Singapore

Not a single year have I missed celebrating Diwali in India. This is the first time I missed such a grand festival.

The Little India area was decorated so very well with lights and decorations atleast 20 days ago and they continue to have them for another 15 days after Diwali. This really made me think that I might have a great time in Singapore during Diwali. Well well it did not happen that way.


Diwali in Singapore was much less than my expectations. You cannot burst crackers here except the lighter ones like sparklers and others. I could only get them and light them late in the evening. In my apartment I was the only one lighting crackers while the chinese were busy with their routine work.

So it was like any other day for me here except that we had a long weekend! hmmm...

Singapore, the lion city

Being an Indian, I must admit that Singapore rocks. They are highly sophisticated in terms of infrastructure. They are a very well planned country with clean neatly laid roads and proper maintenance of drainage system.

Even with heaviest rainfall this country can never be flooded as there are reservoirs found in every area of Singapore.. Coming to the traffic aspect of this country, many people in this country are able to afford a car though they have huge amount as vehicle insurance, road tax, etc. The traffic is very well regulated with 24 hrs signal and when I say that let me also add that they have revolving cameras and high end montoring cameras every 100mts in the road.

For littering the fine charged is $1000 SGD or corrective work order. For smoking in train and stations, the $500 SGD. Am trying to communicate a very important point here. This country is highly disciplined, rules are followed and they are because of these stringent rules and the penalties laid. Hence the whole 40 lakhs population are forced to follow the rules strictly without with surviving in Singapore is close to impossible. This is my profound opinion.

Having been in Singapore now for more than a year I would call this country the most safest country to dwell in. I can walk in the roads at 3 am in the morning without feeling insecured and uncomfortable. The same thing I dont think I can afford to do in India where crime rate is growing in a faster rate.

I can go on and on and on about Singapore. To conclude, Singapore rocks. Its a city of peace, comfort and happiness. Love you Singapura!

Malaysia - Taman Negara

For our second wedding anniversary we went to Malaysia. We visited places like Kuala lampur, Genting, Canopy walk, Lata Berkoh, Taman Negara. While the other places can be given a brief introduction, I wanted to explicate more about this beautiful place called Taman Negara. Taman Negara is one of the oldest rain forests in the world. It is 130 million years old. In malai, Taman means Park.

Location

Central Peninsular Malaysia, spread over the states of Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu. About 200 km (124 miles) from Kuala Lumpur to the main park headquarters at Kuala Tahan.

When to go

Any time of the year, but best outside of the rainy months (November to March). The best period for wildlife is during the forest-fruiting months (approx. mid-year to around September).

Orang Asli Settlements

One such settlement is Kampong Young where visitors can get better insight of Malaysia's friendly aboriginal people, the "Batek", who are a shy yet gentle race. Although fully aware of the country's fast paced developments, they continue to hunt and survive in the wilds.

Bird Watching

Bird watchers, prepare to feast your eyes! With over 350 species of birds, which include Kingfishers, Pheasarits, Drongos, Malkohas, Blue-throated bee-eaters, Broadbills, and the exotic Malayan Pied Hornbill, the park is naturally a bird watcher's haven. Commonly seen are hornbills. Fireback pheasants may be spotted along jungle trails while fishing eagles and kingfishers usually feed along the riverbanks. Sungai Tahan remains a favorite habitat of the masked finfoot. The keen bird watcher will surely not leave the park without spotting a few of these reputed species.

Cave Exploration

Cave exploring, also known as " spelunking", is definitely worth a try when you visit the park. Encounter spectacular rock formations and a great variety of life within the mystifying interiors of the numerous caves hare. Among the more popular caves are Gua Kepayang, Gua Daun Menari (Dancing Leaf Cave), and Gua Telinga (Ear Cave). Gua Telinga, being the most famous of them is carved through a limestone outcrop by a stream, which runs through the cave. Ancient drawings on the wall of the cave speak of a mysterious past. You will also find giant toads and bat-eating snakes who have lived in Malaysia's jungle since prehistoric times.

White Water Rafting

Challenging the rapids is a must for thrill-seekers! Travel upstream from Kuala Tahan on Sungai Tembeling and experience 45 minutes of sheer thrill and excitement as you and your boat-mates negotiate seven sets of swirling rapids. Indonesia - Batam Island

Guys, I had recently visited this island in Indonesia. Believe me, this Batam Island is economically very backward and people speak the Bahasa language. Not many are educated in this part of the world.

The value of Indonesia rupiah is very very less. There are no tall buildings.. its like a typical village. one Indian Rupee is equal to 200 indonesian rupiah . Oh my god, a shoe costs 200,000 rupiah and a pizza costs 8000 rupiah ..

Being an underdeveloped country, the only way people earn is out of tourism. Thats all..

Lets be proud to say that we are Indians and we certainly are a big developing/developed nation.
Only when we come out of India to visit other nations, we realize that there is so much in India that other countries do not have.. on the flip side, there is so much in Singapore which India does not have like the clean roads, air conditioned trains, buses, well disciplined people, etc..

But thats ok.. whatever it is.. I love India and nothing like our place.. :)
