To move my blogger website to my own domain

I have been thinking of moving my blogger website to my own domain for the past few months. Still pondering over it. I came to know that sites like godaddy.com sells domains. I need a piece of advise from you domain owners.

1. Where did you buy your domain from?
2. What are the features/criteria that I should look for in choosing the domain - for example: space, uploading constraints, etc?
3. what extension should I pick for an individual domain like mine - .info, .com, etc?
4. Any other tips that you think will help me choose my domain?

If you domain owners can reply, it will really help me and really looking forward to moving my blogger contents to my own domain. Thanks a lot!

Hi iamyuva, thanks for the comment. However, I would like to know the space constraints available for the domain that I would like to buy. Do you know about it?

hi lakshmi! thanks for dropping by...

with regards to your question,i bought my domain @ 1and1.com and have it hosted for free at blogger. There's a couple of bloggers who bought their domain from the same site where I got mine. actually, they were the one who refer it to me... i would suggest that you get the .com --

however, i want u to know that once you transferred your blog to your own domain, all of your stats will change.. Your alexa will become N/A at first including the technorati, you need to work for your links and backlinks and your PR... all the stats will literally be back to 0. I guess that is the disadvantage of transferring blog to other domain. However, just be patience and just re-build your stats one at a time... that's what I did... hope this helps...

hi dear marie,
thanks a lot for giving your valuable suggestion. I am planning to by a .com domain from godaddy website. hope everything works out well. I will let you know my domain as soon as I buy one.

Regarding the PR, Alexa and Technorati I am very well aware :( Its a bitter truth and I have planned not to move my current blogger domain perhaps I will build my new .com domain from scratch :)

Hi,

It is a great move to move from blogger to your own domain!!

I have most of my domains at Godaddy and the service is pretty good. It is preferable to go for a .com as it is easy to market and also remember!
Search for coupon codes before buying..... you can save a few bucks.

Regarding the hosting, if you are not willing to spend money then i would suggest you to use the free hosting provided by blogger.

Else you can buy your own hosting space (will cost you around $5 a month ) and set up the wordpress platform...
Cheers

Hi Lakshmi,
Please contact me at
antti666 at gmail.com about how much it cost for you to make a blogpost with link to my website about bulgarien and skin care and I have 2 other sites, too.

------------
About your questions then the amount of space in your blog hosting depends entirely upon what hosting solution you choose - it has nothing to do with your domain name. Your domain name is one thing - your webhost solution is another thing. Generally, you can get a good host solution for about $100 a year. You can try out godaddy.com (I use them) but there are others, too. You should select a .com domain since they are cheap and usually people think of .com anyway.
Yes, be aware that IF you move to another host then you lose your Alexa rankings, Google PR...everything...What you can do is to put a link from your current domain to a new domain to get some link power - but, it will bascially be to srtart all over again and it will take several momnths of hard work to get things up again.

Hi Ramanujam and jackattaway2, Thanks for dropping by. I got my .com domain from godaddy.com yesterday. I am wondering how to build my website using that. Can you please advise me on this? Do I have to do some coding to get my site up and running? or will I have an interface like blogger to do my stuff? I do not plan to move my blogger to this new one. Instead I plan to start another blog afresh in my .com domain. This way my hard work on my blogger site will not go a waste :) So please guide on what I need to do to build my site. Hope I do not need to code more
